A large ikebana basket in the style of ancient bronze vessels, the handles elaborately designed. Narrow strips of bamboo, lozenge - plaited, create open work on the body, segmenting it by two bands of twined bamboo. The sculptural form and workmanship of this basket immediately identify the maker, Rokansai, who refined karamono-style and raised basketry to an artform. Tomobako. Height, 13.5".
