A Celadon Studio Porcelain Mizusashi
A classic celadon studio porcelain drum-like mizusashi of rounded
form with original lacquered wood lid and matching porcelain cover.
Carved in various degrees of relief, sprays of leafy scrollwork decorate
the body and porcelain cover, the interior also glazed with celadon.
(Mizusashi, or fresh water jars, hold a special place in the tea ceremony
and are especially honored in Asian cultures.The great Imperial Studio
ceramist, Miyanaga Tozan, received inspiration for the form and design
of this rare specimen from a Chinese water jar dating from the Song-Yuan
Period (13th century).
Miyanaga Tozan impressed signature cartouche in gold on base. Includes
